Brandon Lucke-Wold was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO. He graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Neuroscience and distinction in honors from Baylor University. He completed his MD/PhD, Master’s in Clinical and Translational Research, and the Global Health Track at West Virginia University School of Medicine. His research focus was on traumatic brain injury, neurosurgical simulation, and stroke. At West Virginia University, he also served as a health coach for the Diabetes Prevention and Management program in Morgantown and Charleston, WV, which significantly improved health outcomes for participants. In addition to his research and public health projects, he is a co-founder of the biotechnology company Wright-Wold Scientific, the pharmaceutical company CTE cure, and was a science advocate on Capitol Hill through the Washington Fellow’s program.
He has also served as president of the WVU chapters for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, Neurosurgery Interest group, and Erlenmeyer Initiative Entrepreneur group. In addition, he has served as vice president for the graduate student neuroscience interest group, Nu Rho Psi Honor Society, and medical students for global health. He was an active member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He is currently a member of the Young Neurosurgeons’ Committee. He is married to Noelle Lucke-Wold, and has a toddler daughter named Esme. As a family, they enjoy running with their dogs, rock climbing, and traveling the world. In his spare time, Brandon frequently runs half marathons and 10ks together with is wife. Brandon also enjoys reading and discussing philosophy and playing chess. He is excited to join the neurosurgery residency program at University of Florida.
Miguel Caixinha Professor of Optometry and Vision Sciences from the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Beira Interior, Portugal, since 2016. In 2000 he received a B.Sc. in Applied Physics and Optics, specialization in Optometry from the University of Beira Interior, Portugal. In 2006 he received a M.Sc. in Vision Sciences from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and in 2012 a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Biomedical Engineering from the same University. In 2017 he received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Coimbra. Miguel Caixinha do research in the field of bioengineering, applied to vision sciences since 2003 in the University of Coimbra. He start his research work in the Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Life Sciences (IBILI) from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, in the area of Quality of Vision. In 2009 he started working in ultrasounds applied also to vision sciences in the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. In 2012 as Ph.D. student he submitted a project to the Foundation for Sciences and Technology (FCT) that was approved. This project ended in 2015 with the final classification of Excellent and results in the development of a prototype of a medical device for automatic cataract detection, classification and hardness estimation (ESUS: Eye Scan Ultrasound System) that is under patent (PPP 109646). MC/05/2019 2 During this period he supervised 2 master theses related with the project and in 2016 I supervised a 3rd mater thesis also related with this research area. In 2017 he submitted as co-principal investigator (Co-Investigador Responsável) a new project to the FCT for the validation of the developed prototype in humans. The project was approved and will start in June 2018. He is currently a researcher in the Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes (CEMMPRE) research group from the University of Coimbra, and in the UBIMedical and Clinical and Experimental Centre for Visual Sciences from the University of Beira Interior. All his research in bioengineering has been performed in the University of Coimbra. He is author of 11 scientific articles (one accepted for publication), being 1st author of 2 articles published in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering journal; 2 in Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology journal (Elsevier); and 1 review in Machine Learning Techniques applied to Vision Sciences published in Current Eye Research journal. His Research Interest is in Biomedical Engineering in Vision Sciences; Ultrasounds in Medicine; Adaptive Optics; Refractive Surgery (Quality of Vision and LASER technology); Cataract and Ocular Surgery. His professional activity is developed in the area of Clinical Optometry, Pediatric Optometry, Refractive and Cataract Surgery.

Upon Graduating from Ankara University Medical School in 1997, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akgul had completed his postdoctoral residence and fellowship in the department of cardiovascular surgery at Turkiye Yuksek Ihtisas Training and Research Hospital and in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas
In 2003 he became the chief assistant at Turkiye Yuksek Ihtisas Training and Research Hospital upon returning to Turkey.
In 2004 in addition to his chief assistant position, he also served as an editor in Turkey's biggest, multi-disciplinary, first and only Turkish and English medical publisher named, Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Medical Sciences. During his editorship, he participated in the assessment and finalization of the scientific publications and projects, which are crucial in academic assignments for many medical doctors. He also educated significant amounts of medical doctors and professionals in preparing and publishing a medical article.
In 2005 he became the deputy chief physician at Turkiye Yuksek Ihtisas Training and Research Hospital, therefore he got to manage an employee and patient oriented hospital associated with heart and vascular diseases and surgery.
In 2007 he received his associate professorship in heart and vascular surgery.
In 2009 he was charged with establishing heart and vascular surgery clinic at Istanbul Bakirkoy Dr. Sadi Konuk Hospital where he performed his works as founding clinic chief. He and his team achieved phenomenal success in treating hundreds of patients with varicosity with his trademark technique that bears his name, called Akgul Technique, along with mitral regurgitation. As a result he has been the subject of outstanding news in the visual and print media as well as his own countless publications in medical literature. Furthermore he was honored in medical literature due to his achievements with his own technique and has been invited to conferences in Italy and in the United States of America to present to his foreign colleagues.
Due to the increasing aging population in Turkey and this senior group being the majority of the heart and vascular diseases patients he has established the department of gerontology in Istanbul University. In doing so he had received his professorship and the title of founding department head.
Professor Dr. Ahmet Akgul is currently the head of the Gerontology and the deputy dean of Faculty of Health Sciences at Istanbul University. He also serves as a training officer in Heart and Vascular Surgery Clinique at Bakirkoy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital.
